East Croydon train station evacuated after bomb threat in London Latest News

EAST CROYDON train station was evacuated by police earlier after a suspect package was found.

British Transport Police officers rushed to investigate after a security alert was triggered.

A spokesman for the force said special response units were on the scene from around 7pm.

Trains did not stop at the station as the drama unfolded.

British Transport Police

Passengers were caught in queues at Gatwick Airport as they waited for trains to resume.

A Police spokesman said: “We’re on scene at East Croydon station.

“Our specialist officers and investigating a suspect package.

“We’ll update as soon as we can.”

Police declared the item was not suspicious shortly after 8pm and the station was reopened. 

A spokesman added: “The item at East Croydon has been declared non-suspicious.

“The station will be reopening very shortly.”
