LOVERS: Brendon Hartley and Sarah Wilson are getting married in January

The 27-year-old will be the first F1 driver from the country to race for 33 years at the US Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, this weekend.

He’s set to get married to long-time girlfriend and photographer Sarah Wilson in January.

They revealed the engagement in July last year when they posted a selfie with Wilson showing her ring along with the caption “She said yes!” on his Facebook page.

The blonde pair have been together for 12 years and enjoy travelling and cycling together.

Hartley posts cute selfies of the Kiwi couple at swanky events and on long bike rides.

It’s set to be a tough weekend for Hartley though – he collected a 25-place grid penalty before he had even stepped into the car.

On his first day of practice in the Toro Rosso he completed 69 laps and finished 17th.

“I’m 27, I’m not a young rookie,” Hartley said.

“It was a pretty positive first day. I tried to not overthink it, I just tried to go out and see how I felt in the first session.

“I kept it (the car) on track, made good progression through the day, did a lot of practice starts, pitstop practice which was something quite new to me.”

Harley is a Le Mans 24 Hours winner with Porsche and also a world endurance champion.

So he is no stranger to high performance racing.

Whatever his grid position after qualifying, the New Zealander will be starting at the back.

This is due to an engine switch he inherited from absent Frenchman Pierre Gasly.

“I feel positive I can do the drive come Sunday,” he added.

“The feedback I got so far from everyone was positive. They were really happy with the long run and how I managed the tyres at the end, which is a big part of the job.”

The US GP qualifying starts at 10pm today with the race 8pm tomorrow.
