SEVERAL of Greggs’ healthy options could be packing more calories than its famed pastry and doughnuts.

Brits flock to the High Street baker on a daily basis for its indulgent sweet and savoury snacks.

But it has emerged that its Balance Choice range could be worse for your health than the calorie laden pastries.

Research from the Sun has shown that their Mexican Chicken and smoky rice bean salad contains 382 calories.

SAUSAGE TROLLS: Greggs’ salads could be as bad as pastry

This is more than their sausage rolls, containing 327, and their steak and cheese rolls, which contain 340.

And their cheese, tomato and basil pasta contains one more at 328, giving it more calories per portion than a caramel custard doughnut at 303 and a Yum Yum at 294.

Tucking in to the falafel, harissa, roast vegetable and grain salad will also give you more calories, at 314.

Lucy Jones of the British Dietetic Association said: “There is more to health than calories alone.

“That being said, salads loaded with saturated fat from mayonnaise and cheese certainly don’t offer a healthier choice.”

A Greggs spokesman told the paper: “We display content on al products at point of sale and full nutritional information.”

The news comes after pastry fans were devastated by Greggs choosing to increase the price of their sausage roll to a whopping 90p.
