John Lewis accused of RUINING Christmas with £7M monster advert flop Latest News

JOHN Lewis has been accused of ruining Christmas with their £7million telly ad starring a giant farting monster.

The 2017 campaign went live yesterday and features seven-year-old Joe who discovers a creature sleeping under his bed.

Moz The Monster eventually wins over the lad and the pair play games through the night, causing Joe to struggle to stay awake during the day.

Moz disappears after buying Joe a nightlight.

The ad was directed by Oscar winner Michel Gondry and set to Elbow’s version of The Beatles’ Golden Slumbers.

“My children feel so let down”

Bosses hope Moz will be as successful as 2014’s Monty The Penguin, who earned the brand £2.5m in soft toy sales alone.

However, some viewers said the retailer had lost its touch, with one commenting: “My children have been looking forward to this for months and they feel so let down. I don’t know about them but I don’t get it at all. #backtothedrawingboard.”

Another wrote “Am I missing something? This is absolute tosh.”

Yet one fan wrote on Twitter: “Omg a farting, snoring monster! Absolutely love it I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry so did both. @johnlewisretail you’ve done it again.”

Bookies Betway gave even odds for the ad to get fewer YouTube views than 2015 and 2016 efforts Buster The Boxer and Man On The Moon.

John Lewis’s Craig Inglis said the ad “brings to life the power of children’s imaginations”.
