Man city news: Feyenoord light flares ahead of Champions League game Latest News

THOUSANDS of Dutch fans have swamped Manchester – with many letting off flares before tonight’s Champions League showdown.

Up to 5,000 fans of the Dutch side Feyenoord are in town for a game against Manchester City.

Fans have been pictured downing booze in excess and chanting football songs.

A huge police operation is now underway in the city centre to try and keep the number of incidents at bay.

Armed police and riot vans have been spotted patrolling the area.

The Dutch club will be cheered on by 3,000 fans who have official tickets, but more than 2,000 are thought the have travelled to the city to support their team.

The home team are favourites to win the game.

Feyenoord are one of the most notorious for football violence in all of Holland.

Ten years ago they were booted out of the UEFA Cup for rioting away at Nancy in France.

CHAOS: Flares are being lit in Manchester city centre ahead of the Champions League game

Since 2009, all the club’s games against hated rivals Ajax have been played without away fans.

Greater Manchester Police said no arrests had yet been made in the city centre but confirmed there was a large police presence
