With the Queen and Prince Philip celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary today, there’s now two reasons to be cheerful.

BIG MONEY: The UK benefitted hugely from the Royal Family this year

But it has also been revealed the annual cost of maintaining the monarchy is £292million.

This is equivalent to £4.50 per person or a mere 1p per day.

If the Royal Family was to be looked at as “Brand Monarchy”, it is valued at a staggering £67.5billion.

This would place it in third among the biggest brands in the world, below Google (valued at £76.8billion) and above Microsoft (£65.7billion).

GOOD TIMING: The day of the figures being released coincides with the Queen’s 70th anniversary

As you’d expect, the Royals have a mind-boggling array of assets, including the Crown Estate, the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall and the jewels and art from the Royal Collection – all of which are worth £25.5billion.

The other £42billion comes from tourism and trade.

The findings by leading business valuation firm Brand Finance showed that due to its effect on tourism, the media and other industries, the country’s economy is boosted by £1.76billion every year.

Just £500million alone was generated from tourism.

Brand Finance’s chief executive David Haigh said: “Exactly 25 years ago, the Windsor Castle fire marked the nadir of the Queen’s annus horribilis when scandals drove the monarchy’s popularity down.

“Today, its universal appeal translates to the attraction of Brand Monarchy, offering commercial benefits to all businesses and institutions associated with it.”

Other jaw-dropping figures include £193.3million being produced in extra business for 800 brands who have been awarded royal warrants.

Another £50million has been generated for the arts by films, TV series and plays about the monarchy, including The Crown, Victoria and Charles III, while worldwide press coverage of the Royal Family brought publicity equivalent to £125million in advertising.

The monarchy’s value has risen each year since Brand Finance’s first study in 2012, when it was worth £44billion.
