Black and white video footage shows the moment an overenthusiastic Prince made a big faux pas on the couple’s big day.

The film shows a Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten leaving Kensington Palace with a beaming smile across his face.

He and his best man, the Marquess of Milford Haven, step out into a crowd of Royal fans before coming to a sudden stop.

JUST ANOTHER GAFFE: This is one of many of Prince Philip’s red-faced moments

Philip then looks down on his pocket watch and awkwardly looks back up before having a chat with his best man.

He realises he has made a right Royal gaffe – he is too early.

The Prince then laughs, turns around and walks back inside until the correct time.

Philip would go on to become the Duke of Edinburgh and marry his princess at 11:30am on November 20, 1947, in Westminster Abbey.

The ceremony was held in front of 2,000 guests and broadcast to 200million radio listeners worldwide.

Being the future Monarch also attracts a few gifts – with the couple receiving 2,583 wedding gifts and 10,000 telegrams of congratulations.

Now, 70 years on, the pair are about to celebrate their platinum anniversary.

But as Daily Star Online reported this summer, the couple have decided not to celebrate it publicly.

It comes as the Heir to the throne, Prince Charles, starts to take on more roles as he prepares to be King.
