Traffic and travel CHAOS: Roads gridlocked as snow and floods hit UK Latest News

Parts of the UK were hit by snow last night, as well as high winds and flooding after heavy rainfall in other areas.

And more snow is expected to fall today, with up to 5cm forecast in Scotland this morning.

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for northern parts of the country and said there will likely be delays and hazardous conditions on railways and roads.

It comes as Lancaster and Galgate, in Lancashire, were affected by serious flooding overnight.

The A6 has been closed in both directions and 27 residents have been forced to evacuate their homes.

So far, the Environment Agency issued 25 flood alerts and ten warnings – most in the North West.

Wales has also experienced “major flooding”, with the Anglesey town Llangefni left partly submerged.

The Isle of Anglesey county council said a large number of roads in the area have been affected, including the A545, which was hit by a landslide.

The A5 was also closed due to a lorry crash.
