UK traffic news: Lorry fire closes M1 motorway between J20 and 21 Latest News

A HUGE fire erupted on the M1 motorway this afternoon sparking traffic mayhem for commuters.

The dramatic blaze broke out between junctions 20 and 21 in Leicestershire.

The lorry involved is reported to have been carrying aerosols, with the enormous fire spreading to the banking at the side of the carriageway.

Emergency services swarmed the scene with a section of the M1 shut.

Pictures have emerged showing the lorry reduced to a burnt-out shell.

Drivers said they heard quick, repeated explosions as the fire took hold.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said both carriageways were initially closed because of “flying debris”.
