THE ANIMAL: Batista is a six-time world champion and a lock for the WWE Hall of Fame

Six-time world champion turned Hollywood sensation Batista has not been seen in a wrestling ring since a lukewarm comeback in 2014.

The 48-year-old – known as The Animal – was badly received by fans as he won the Royal Rumble and featured in the main event of Wrestlemania 30.

Since then he has reinvented himself, starring in Guardians of the Galaxy, James Bond movie Spectre, and Blade Runner 2049.

Speaking to legendary WWE commentator Jim Ross on his podcast The Ross Report, Batista confirmed he is already in talks with Vince McMahon.

He hopes to have once last run against old rival Triple H – with whom he had a trio of classic matches back in 2005.

The 6ft 6in, 290lb, wrestler said: “I would love to go back, but the reason I have not gone back is because I don’t want to do a one off.

“I want to go and I want to wrestle. I want to do some house shows (untelevised live events), I want to be a part of the program and I love it.

“The one off thing, the cheap pop thing, it doesn’t do anything for me.”

During his last run over little over six months in 2014, Batista tapped out in the main event of Wrestlemania 30 to Daniel Bryan – losing his shot at the world championship.

He then reformed tag-team Evolution with Randy Orton and Triple H for a duo of matches against The Shield before leaving again in June.

Batista said: “I’ve never burnt that bridge because I still love wrestling and everybody in the WWE has been really good to me.”

The champ added: “I didn’t walk out on them, I let my contract run out. They knew I was going to be leaving. I did business the right way. I’m really thankful that I did.”

Batista is now lighting up Hollywood, with critical acclaim for his performances as space adventurer Drax the Destroyer in the two Guardians of the Galaxy films.

Known for his slam the Batista Bomb and submission hold the Batista Bite, he was a WWE mainstay during the noughties.

He left the world’s biggest wrestling company in 2010, at the time citing creative differences – before a brief stint in MMA.

Batista said: “I stay in touch, man, I’ve talked to Vince [McMahon] recently and he knows what I want. I’ve made it very clear that I wanted to go back and run a program with Hunter [Triple H].

“I’ve been very public about it and I think that’s the thing that would get me back.”

The Animal reached the top of the mountain at Wrestlemania 21, winning his first world championship from Triple H.
